Charleston Anniversary Surprise

So my hubby told me to pack my bags and we were off on a secret trip on Friday.  We left around 7:30? (seems so long ago) and we drove south.  After a few hours, I started seeing signs for Savannah, GA.  For a good hour or so, I thought that was were we were going.  Then the husband turned off on an exit to CHARLESTON!!!!   I’ve been to Charleston, SC one time before.  It was a field trip in high school and not nearly as exciting as this one.  I am telling you, Brandon and I are best friends.  I have so much fun with him 🙂

South of the Border.  Does anyone actually go to this?

So we arrive in Charleston and he tells me to look for a Hampton Inn.  So I found it and then we drove past it.  What a sneak!  We pulled up to one of my dream places- A BED AND BREAKFAST!!!!!!!!! I watched “Tori and Dean: Inn Love” for a while and I wanted to stay in a B&B just like they did.  I love the quaintness of a B&B and the history behind them.  I was so happy he took me there I was almost in tears!!

Here is the wonderful B&B we stayed at:

The Battery Carriage House Inn

We got there a little early (check in was at 3), but they let us go ahead and check in since the room was clean.

We then went downtown to grab lunch at the Noisy Oyster.

I got the shrimp quesadilla.  It was delicious!

After lunch, we went through the outdoor market and got some ice cream from Kilwin’s.  I love Kilwin’s, it reminds me of Wilmington.

We decided to go on the carriage ride through Charleston.  I loved this in high school, so I was excited that the husband wanted to go on it. Our horse’s name was Carson and our driver had such a southern accent, it almost sounded fake.  Brandon and I kept quoting “Forrest Gump” because he sounded just like him!

We thought this said something else 😉

We then came back to the B&B and went to the cocktail hour at 5:30.  They serve wine and cheese every night between 5:30-7.  I was in love.  This was my kind of place! I had two glasses and some yummy cheese.  We mingled with other guests, some from Canada!, Virginia and Ohio.  I could have listened to the couple from Quebec all night.  I love listening to a French accent 🙂

We had to write down what we wanted to breakfast the next day on our door hanger and put it up before dinner.

We left and had dinner at Fleet Landing.

I wanted a chicken sandwich, but the waiter was kind of a jerk and told me I should get something else.  It pissed me off, but I ordered salmon instead.  I mean, I know I should get seafood in Charleston, but I was going to order a chicken sandwich and a blue crab dip appetizer.  He just heard “chicken sandwich” and there went his tangent.  Anyway…Brandon ordered seafood pasta and was in love.

We sat out on the pier and the atmosphere was awesome.  We watched the sun go down.  It was pretty wonderful.

When got back to the room we realized we had turn down service!

With complimentary chocolates.  They tasted like Andes mints!

We parked and forgot the towels so Brandon went back to the car to get them.

We came back to the B&B, showered and were off to Fort Sumter.  I am not a history lover like my husband, so I wasn’t that excited.

We took a 30 minute ferry ride over.

We listened to a 30 minute speech, walked around for about a half hour and then got back on the ferry to ride back.

We then had the 5:30 wine and cheese again at the B&B 🙂

And went to dinner around 8 at the Charleston Crab House.

Charleston, SC 2010 247

I ordered the low country shrimp boil. SO FREAKING GOOD!!!!!!!!!

The husband got the broiled something or other. I was too focused on my food to pay attention 🙂

Pizza = Love

We just wanted something easy for lunch since we were going out for pizza tonight. I heated up some turkey chili and put some sour cream and light mexican shredded cheese.  We actually got the idea from Chili’s skillet queso.  Mmm!

We read some.  Here is me no makeup and wet hair reading in my Snuggie!

Then, we went to Mellow Mushroom with Jake + Jennifer and their sweet baby Kai tonight.  I love their pizza.  We have a relationship.  Pizza + me = Pure Happiness.

Extra hour

I love getting extra hours in a day. Especially on a Sunday.  Anything to hold off going to work 🙂

Last night we had about 40 trick or treaters.  They came in big groups and I stopped counting at 28.  It was a lot of fun.  I love seeing cute little kids in costumes.  Most of the boys were just “dead” things with fake blood and then the majority of the girls were princesses.  There was one girl who I think was Britney Spears?  I’m not sure, but she was too young to have such tall wedges.

Anywho last night ended with us watching a little bit of  Trick or Treat.  We have neighbors who have this evil pumpkin boy thing in their front yard and they kept moving it different places every day for a week.  It kind of freaked us out and then we say the evil pumpkin boy thing in Blockbuster.  He is from Trick or Treat which is the cheesiest “scary” movie eva.

Fall 2009 004

We stopped the movie just as a bunch of girl unzipped their skin and turned into werewolves. Yeah, pretty lame.  The husband and I like scarier movies and I’m a suspense kind of girl.

Fall 2009 001

I wore these yesterday in celebration.

Fall 2009 002

Super comfy.  I have some for Christmas as well 🙂

I also made some pumpkin pancakes this morning.  A little thicker this time 🙂

Fall 2009 003

Today is so rainy/yucky outside.  I am going to get out of the house and go to the grocery store.  Everytime I want to go to the Farmer’s Market, it rains so that might not be in the plans today.  Hope your morning is going well!

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

Happy Halloween everyone!   With today being  Halloween and my love for everything pumpkin, I decided to make a pumpkin smoothie.

pics2009 535

The recipe:

1 1/4 cup unsweetened TJ’s soymilk

1/4 cup organic canned pumpkin (do not use pumpkin pie filling)

1 container (6oz) of Stonyfield Pumpkin Pie yogurt

(I had one left and I figured it would taste better mixed with other things)

1 tablespoon agave nectar

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

a splash (maybe a tablespoon?) of fat free vanilla coffee creamer

4-5 icecubes

It is very very pumpkin-y.  Which I love.  The husband wasn’t a fan, but that is just because  he is jealous of pumpkin and I’s relationship 😉
